The roots of happiness grow deepest in the soil of service.

OUR ROOTS

The roots of Olive Tree International reach back into 2001, when founder Sheryl Malone, M.Ed., envisioned a learning center that would empower students, families, and communities. Since then, Olive Tree has provided tailored educational assistance to students of all ages, and this year we are pleased to serve even more students through our tutoring program.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to equip children with educational tools that can aid them in the classroom and the community. We utilize various methods of instruction and technology to meet the ever-changing demands of our time, and we also furnish enrichment resources for parents and guardians. We work hard to positively impact students of the next generation, but we realize that we never work alone. We simply join the work parents and guardians have already begun.

OUR MODEL

We believe parents are the first teachers and that education is a partnership. To ensure students reach their potential, we provide resources for continued learning that parents can utilize after tutoring sessions are complete.

OUR STAFF

Our instructors are licensed teachers with over 35 years of educational experience in Mississippi schools (public and private). Having served in administrative, instructional, and consultative capacities, they specialize in student mastery and have considerable experience preparing students for standardized testing. They continue to participate in professional development opportunities in order to best serve the current needs of students and parents.

what makes us different

Olive Tree is not a traditional school or a private school. We are a learning center that focuses on tutoring and test-taking strategies to strengthen students’ understanding and application of math and English Language Arts. Here are some of the features of our program:

  • We use curriculum standards from the Mississippi Department of Education as our basis of instruction, targeting the Core Four Subject Areas: Language Arts, Science, Math, and Social Studies. We also incorporate STEAM Training (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) into learning.

  • We offer a cost-effective learning program that delivers maximum impact on an abbreviated schedule.

  • We utilize traditional, collaborative, problem-solving, and hands-on learning techniques during sessions. This practice diversifies the educational experience and appeals to different types of learning styles.

  • We offer a flexible student learning pace. For example, if a 4th grade student can read on a 5th grade level, that student will have an opportunity to access 5th grade literature.

  • We consistently communicate with parents/guardians about their student’s progress. We explain which skills need to be practiced at home for mastery, offer resources to support parents in that process, and can provide additional feedback in any area that your student may need help the most.
